A blog by Louise Roback, an avid home cook — and baker — living in the upper Hudson Valley of New York, US.
I believe food is a great pleasure and cooking can be a joy and not a chore. Just cook simply and with the seasons as your guide.
I spent most of my adult life working as an attorney. I really did try to use my skills to save the world — working for social justice, civil liberties, and the environment. I loved the work but rarely the office environments.
In 2013, I took a different path to pursue baking, a life-long passion. I participated in a week-long Baking Boot Camp with the CIA, where I made my first French macarons, and was offered an apprenticeship with the fabulous Bakery Lorraine in San Antonio. I came home and launched a baking business called Fresh Start Bakehouse (Facebook). I baked pastries for farmers markets, parties and Wm Farmer & Sons coffee shop in Hudson, NY.
I live with my swell dawg and zany rescue cat in a little farm house in beautiful, green Columbia County, near the majestic Hudson River, and on clear days with a view of the Catskill Mountains.
